Blackthorn Sea Salt Wins the 2024 Golden Fork for Scotland
Last September, Blackthorn Salt had the honour of reaching the finals at the prestigious Golden Fork event held at Battersea Arts Centre and we returned home, deeply grateful and humbled, with this beautiful, weighty award in hand. Safe to say, these cheesy grins only show a glimpse of the complete astonishment, delight and no little imposter feeling that we had!
From 13,672 entries to one Golden Fork
Coined the Oscars of the food world, these arise out of the mass of 13,672 Great Taste product hopefuls which are all blind-judged by an experienced and patient panel of 500. Out of those, a mere 1.9% won 3 stars and we were thrilled to discover that Blackthorn Sea Salt was among them. It didn’t occur to us that there would be more to this journey.
It turns out that these 3star products are then put forward for the ‘Golden Forks’ and out of those, just 30 are entered into a final round. We were in extremely good and knowledgeable company.
When Blackthorn Sea Salt was announced as one of only 12 Golden Fork winners across the UK and beyond, we were stunned. Blackthorn is the only sea salt ever to receive the prestigious Golden Fork Award from the Guild of Fine Food!

The 2024 Golden Fork Awards were an eye-opening celebration of craftsmanship and flavour. The passion, quality, and creativity on display were remarkable — with standout producers including Louisa’s Honey, Lussa Gin, Cashel Farmhouse Cheesemakers, Dà Mhìle Distillery, and Seabuckthorn Scotland CIC.

Great Taste Golden Forks 2025
This year, we had the privilege of attending the Golden Fork Awards 2025 from the audience, supporting so many incredible producers. Huge congratulations to everyone who took part, whether they won or not, and not least to the amazing Enkiln House, Ocelot Chocolate, Miso Tasty, Mario's Ice Cream, and Green Pastures Donegal.
We feel lucky to be part of this world and call this “work”!
